This Thing Called Post-Partum
I must admit, I did go through post-partum. I cried all of a sudden in the middle of the day, felt like lending my baby to someone else, had to shop, shop, and shop to make myself happy (hence the high credit card bills- ugh!). It was an ugly feeling but because I was aware that I was going through post-partum syndrome, I didn't take it seriously. Don't worry, I was far from Brooke Shields. Just had the "blues."
I came across a fellow blogger (who happens to be more popular than me), Heather Armstrong who writes about her 5-year old and her battle with post-partum in Dooce.com. Well, if there is anything good that came out of it, she is now famous for her book, It Sucked and then I Cried: How I had a Baby, a Breakdown and a Much-needed Margarita. I am not pregnant anymore, nor am I going through any depression, but I am interested to read her book.
When I was going through post-partum, I read Mother Shock: Loving Every (Other) Minute of It, thanks to my friend who got it from me in Singapore (unfortunately they didn't have it in Hong Kong). I must say it really helps to read about other moms who are going through the same experience. Makes you feel you are normal and not crazy!
The way to deal with it is to just laugh about it before it drives you insane. Check out these books (if you are not too sleepy to read), they might help:
1. Rockabye: A Young Mom's Journey from Wild to Child
2. The Second Nine Months: One Woman Tells the Real Truth about Becoming a Mom. Finally
3. Sippy Cups Are Not for Chardonnay : And Other Things I Had to Learn as a New Mom
4. Naptime Is the New Happy Hour: And Other Ways Toddlers Turn Your Life Upside Down
5. Dirty Little Secrets from Otherwise Perfect Moms
I have not read all of them but you can read the reviews at Barnes and Noble. As for me, I am interested in the Girlfriends Guide to Toddlers as my baby is now walking and has a mind of her own.
Hmm... maybe I should write a book too? I need to earn some serious cash to buy all the stuff I am recommending on my blog...
