I Want my Blankie!

When my fellow YummeeMommies got together for lunch, we were talking about whether or not to give our children dummies (or pacifiers). Some say that it would be good to get the baby used to it because it helps soothe her and could be a lifesaver when the baby starts crying (especially when traveling on a plane). Some have mentioned that dummies could lead to ugly teeth.

My daughter used the dummy in her early months. In the beginning, newborns don't really know how to use it and just end up pushing the dummy out of their mouth. But when she knew how, she loved her dummy.

However, she lost interest in the dummy when she met her blankie, her newfound best friend. This blankie would go with her everywhere; she would nap with it in her Maxi Cosi and sleep with it at night in her crib. She looked so cute, thumbsucking while holding her fave bunny (a gift from her brother and was a giveaway from Air France when he flew from Paris to Hong Kong).

One day, my hubby and baby went out for a walk and came back home to tell me the bad news. Lil bunny was lost. My daughter woke up every hour that night looking for her soft toy, took hours for me to put her back to bed and she would not nap at all the next day. I was so desperate I had to call Air France to give me a new bunny. The operator told me we would have to fly Air France again. There was no way I going to Paris just to get that bunny. Duh!

So, I went to Prince Building in Central and got her a new blankie from Kaloo. Soft, cute little bear. But, for her, it wasn't her bunny. The following day I went to Elements and got her another blue bear from WiseKids. Again, she would throw it away everytime I gave it to her. I wouldn't last carrying her in my arms for an hour before putting her to bed everyday. It was way too tiring!

Day three after bunny was lost, my husband (who was a former blankie lover too when he was young) decided to come with me to Ocean Terminal to look for the right blankie and alas! We found this lil alien from ItsImagical. It had lil knots (that's what babies love about it), was soft and was the same color as her bunny. She started looking at it and smiling at it. My hubby and I were relieved.

At first, she didn't like it the same way as bunny but after sleeping beside it for the next few days, she started loving it the same way as her bunny. Lesson learned: Do not bring the dummy when we go out so we do not risk losing it. I am already tempted to buy her another one of the same kind, in case we lose alien again. But, for now, I am just happy she can sleep on her own without me rocking her. And that's why I have learned to love lil alien too. Zzzz...
