Bedtime Stories
My baby loves loves books! She just loves listening to stories and looking at the colorful illustrations. In fact, she wants to turn the pages herself (and rip them sometimes). Since most of her books are in French, brought by my sweet sis-in-law from Switzerland, I had to buy her some books in Englsh so that I can actually read them to her (The only French I know is fries).
I started researching on what books are good and discovered some children's bookstores too. There is a good selection at Metrobooks in Elements Mall (which is surprisingly owned by the Ramoses of National Book Store). They also have a small nook where children can sit down and read. On weekends, they even hold activities such as painting and storytelling which is quite interesting.
If you happen to be in Tsimshatsui, there is a small children's bookstore beside Toys R Us in Ocean Terminal that sells a lot of books and I got my daughter one of the Maisy books: Maisy Goes to Bed which is her fave. I also found some Touch and Feel books that were on sale too.
My friend recommended Eric Carle's books (famous for The Very Hungry Caterpillar) and Goodnight Moon and found cheaper reprints sold in Bookazine, Prince Building in Central. They also have a little corner for kids where they can watch children's shows while sitting on beanie bags.
And of course there's always Dymock's (IFC Mall) that sells a lot of Baby Einstein books and flashcards if that's your cup of tea.
I heard that reading to your children not only stimulates creativity and encourages speech but also result to smarter kids. And so I started my book spree... so I can later send my daughter to Harvard.
