Once the tummy starts to show, the preggy mom not only occupies more space in bed but also needs more pillows. The bigger the bump, the more uncomfortable it gets and the back starts aching. Doctors recommend that the best sleeping position is to sleep on your side, the left side that is! That improves circulation and blood flow to the fetus, uterus and kidneys. Although there's no need to pressure yourself and sleep on your left all the time.
Going back to our pillow talk, if hubby starts complaining that you are hogging his pillows in bed, ask him to get you your own pregnancy pillow. There are several in the market that are designed to help you get more zzzs.
For Full- body support
If you have a big bed and don't mind having a big pillow, Snoogle (by Leachco) might be the best option for you. The curves on the top and bottom helps support the head, neck, and knees. If your hubby doesn't mind that there's a third person (his name is Snoogle) in bed, then get this pillow. Other pillows made by Leachco are Back n' Belly, All nighter, Snoogle Loop and Body Double. Please don't ask me about the difference among all...just choose the best shape for you.
For Upper-body support
If you are not worried about having to wrap pillows around your legs and just want comfort on the belly side and back, then I suggest this pregnancy pillow by Matsmatsmats. Other upper body pillows you could buy are Snoozer, and the Cuddle pregnancy pillow by Boppy.
For Tummy Support
If you feel that the your pillows in bed are enough to comfort your aching body, and just need something to support for the tummy area, you can get the wedge. This is what I bought when I was pregnant since I didn't worry about my neck and other parts of the body. I simply inserted the wedge under my tummy and slept like a baby. You can either get the normal, triangular shaped one made by Kushies (although I just got mine from a local store in Sheung Wan) or get this rounded shaped wedge by Boppy. Since pillow is small, it's portable too so you can bring it with you when going for a holiday if you are that attached to it...
For Nursing
Now, if you are planning to get a nursing pillow for breastfeeding baby, I suggest to get a multi-purpose pillow like Bumpil. This pillow can be used for baby's tummy time as well. Now, that's neat!
If you want a separate pillow just for nursing, then I recommend My Breast Friend. It does look bulky and looks like a swimmer's float but my friend says it really works for her. I had the same pillow (apparently she gave me this pillow too) but did not use it since I was too lazy to attach it and wanted to have space around me. To each his own! I like the pockets on the side though and they sell slipcovers too if you want to throw them in the wash.
Cuddle-U (again by Leachco) is also a good alternative. This pillow can be used for nursing and baby's tummy time. The colors of the fabric look great too! Apart from how it looks, some moms prefer this pillow because baby finds it more comfy.
Last but not the least, is the Boppy nursing pillow. Like the Cuddle-U, this pillow can be used for tummy time. The only difference is they sell slipcovers in case you want to wash them and have more designs to choose from. Also, Boppy is more expensive by a few dollars than Cuddle-U. I like the other Boppy products such as Boppy Nogin Nest Support and the Boppy Tummy Play Pad.
